AA president Edmund King has called for Grant Shapps to return to the role of Transport Secretary.
King tweeted: “Probably like @grantshapps back and get him to continue to sort out smart motorways and work on more fuel price transparency and EV infrastructure.”
Grant Shapps was appointed Home Secretary following the resignation of Suella Braverman on 19 October. He served as Transport Secretary from 2019 to 2022.
During his time in the role, he began reform of the railway franchise system was involved in an investment in cycle lanes in the UK worth £250million.
The current Transport Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who has been in the post since 6 September, backed Boris Johnson for the Conservative leadership.
